Astronauts and Big Bird Made Discoveries Today

July 20th, 2005

In memory of the Apollo’s first lunar mission (July 20, 1969) Google has posted images of the moon using their Map interface.

As I was doing some other reading today, I stumbled across another development which was occuring here on Earth on this day. It turns out that the development of our beloved Sesame Street was about to take a fascinating turn.

Congrats to the astronauts, Big Bird and company (to paraphrase) for going where no one had gone before.

Update #2 on Mott’s : No reply.

July 17th, 2005

I was going to wait until I received a reply from Mott’s re: their error of omission on their Web site. Since it’s been a while and I haven’t received a response, I am blog posting my e-mail to them requesting they remove the false information from their Web site.

The message as follows:

On the web page: http://www.motts.com/product_info/index.asp

You state “We pick fresh, whole apples that meet the highest standards of quality and flavor for use in our products. We purchase our apples from over 400 apple growers throughout the United States and Canada, who grow apples for apple juices and sauces.”

However, the 1 gal bottle of 100% juice I purchased states on the neck “Conc. from USA, Argentina, Turkey/Poland & Hungary”

Please either:
(1) source your concentrate as your Web site states

Or,
(2) correct your Web site.

First Day

July 5th, 2005

Well, my first day (at the new job) was interesting. No AC for half the day and no PC.
Thankfully, the AC was restored just after lunch. PC should be in tomorrow.
Don’t fret though I had plenty of training, people to meet and orientation to focus on.

Updated: Mott’s Apple Juice from Where?

July 3rd, 2005

In my original post I stated:

“So, I take a guess and buy Mott’s brand who state on their Web site: “We pick fresh, whole apples that meet the highest standards of quality and flavor for use in
our products. We purchase our apples from over 400 apple growers throughout the
United States and Canada, who grow apples for apple juices and sauces.”

What I find out (by looking at the bottle closely) is that Mott’s buys apple juice concentrate from Argentina, Venezula, and Costa Rica, too. This far from where Motts says “We purchase our apples from over 400 apple growers throughout the United States and Canada, who grow apples for apple juices and sauces.”

Atleast it’s not China (yet).

Seth’s Blog: The Mediocre Emergency

July 2nd, 2005

Seth’s Blog: The Mediocre Emergency: “The Mediocre Emergency

Let’s say you work at eBay.

Your site goes down. How many people will drop what they are doing and figure out how to get it back up and running?

Everyone from PR to server guys will be on the case.

Or let’s say you work at Aetna. A fire rips through a warehouse and destroys a million policy records.

How many people, from the CEO to the actuaries will get on the stick and make something happen?

Now, imagine you work at GM. I know, it’s hard, but imagine.

For years, you’ve been designing, making and marketing stuff in a mediocre way. No one dropped what they were doing to fix the problem. It’s not an emergency.

Of course, it is an emergency. It’s a bigger emergency than the things you can buy insurance against, because it’s endemic, hard to measure and ultimately fatal.

Have a nice long weekend if it’s a long weekend where you live. And when you get back to work, figure out where the mediocre emergency lies and stamp it out. Even better, start today. After all, it’s an emergency.”
